More about Tim Allyn
I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and have 7 years of experience as a talk therapist. I have a Masters of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy and Counselling and work with individuals, couples and premarital couples. Having one counsellor that works both individually and relationally can help save time and resources in therapy as individual issues often coexist with relationship strains.
As a young adult, I was greatly helped by a caring therapist as I was experiencing depression after a relationship breakup. Healing from that experience with the help of a therapist encouraged me to enter the profession of counselling. Today, I am grateful to have the opportunity to walk with others through tough times in life. Therapy is an investment in you or your relationship and as with all investments, there is sacrifice. Opening up can be difficult work, especially in the beginning, as our clients' situations are often complex, confusing and painful. We will listen closely and work non-judgementally with any concern to formulate an effective plan for therapy. The rewards of counselling are great and you are worth the investment. I operate under the name Dundee Counselling and provide counselling sessions from Office 1/1 First Floor, 4 Panmure Street, Dundee, DD1 2BW, (located across the street from McManus Gallery. Cost is £40 per 50 min session for individuals or £50 for couples.

More about Walter Baxter
I assume that you are looking for a counsellor because something has gone wrong in your life and you are searching for a way to put it right. There are many different reasons people come up against seemingly unsolvable problems in their lives. But at the end of the day what really matters is finding an effective way to overcome the problem so that you can continue to live the life you choose. When our usual ways of sorting our problems out don’t work anymore it can be helpful to speak with someone who is not involved in your day-to-day life. I have been trained to provide you with a safe and confidential space to explore what is bothering you. By this, I mean both a physical space and an emotional space. I will not judge you but I will give you my honest reflections on what you say to me. I will work hard to understand what you are telling me and to empathise with the emotions you are feeling. The combination of adding a completely new person’s ideas to your problem-solving efforts in the unique circumstances that a counselling space offers, allows new answers to come to light. I believe that the answers to problems in living are found by you creatively reshuffling your personal strengths, your life experiences, and what we have learned “between us together” and coming up with a new perspective.
Practice description
The therapy that I offer is based on the belief that people who come for therapy are experts on their own lives (even if they don’t feel they are), who have lots of potentially good ideas about how to deal with their problems. One of my main roles is to help the person to make the best use of their experience and understanding.
This means that my approach to therapy (called a ‘pluralistic approach’) is to try to be as flexible as possible in responding to your needs. What I find is that different people are helped in different ways. For instance, what some people find most helpful in their therapy is to express their feelings – sadness, anger, fearfulness. Other people find it more helpful to take a rational approach to their problems and use the therapy to ‘think things through’. People can shift, over the course of therapy, from finding one kind of activity helpful to then preferring to work in a different way with their therapist.
I try to be flexible around the practical arrangements for therapy. Most people attend for a one-hour session at the same time each week. This can vary depending on your personal circumstances.
Flexibility also applies to the number of therapy sessions that you receive. Some people come for one or two sessions and find that this is enough to put them ‘on the right track’. Other people attend therapy for many months. What is important is to do what is best for you personally. One of the options is what I call intermittent therapy – if you have some sessions and then want to stop, you can always come back at any time in the future and pick up where you left off.

More about Caroline Georgiou
I have gone to extraordinary lengths and depths to know myself and it was not until I returned to my body as home, that profound transformation began. I believe that therapy must support somatic awareness and exploration because without body, we are spirit without a home and this is a place of trauma, dissociation and disconnection. To live only in our heads is to retreat into the attic, never venturing downstairs and relying solely on one source of perception. We don't have to stay so restricted, we can relearn to trust the smart force of our nature and reclaim ourselves again.
My personal practice supports my ongoing journeying and so I make regular appointments with my unconscious through authentic movement and sacred dance practices, rituals, personal counselling, drawing, journalling, poetry, anything that animates my soul. I also offer somatic movement group workshops in the community which helps to keep my practice fresh as everyone I meet is a teacher of infinite wisdom.

COUNSELLING FOR INDIVIDUALS & COUPLES
HOW COUNSELLING WORKS Counselling is about being listened to. It offers you the chance to talk about issues and problems, difficult feelings, hopes and fears - in complete confidence and without being judged. I believe we are the experts on our own lives. We hold the solutions to our problems, but we often need someone outside our circle of friends and family to help us see them.
Talking to a trained counsellor helps you to understand yourself better - how you behave and relate to other people - so that you have more choice in the way you lead your life.
Counselling can also help you come to terms with the past and accept the things you can’t change. It can give you courage and confidence to do some things differently and break out of patterns where you get stuck. You then have a better chance of fulfilling your dreams and making the most of your potential.
COUPLE COUNSELLING This is to help you communicate better as a couple. As the counsellor I’m there to make sure you’re both properly heard. I’m on both your sides and I have no vested interest in a particular outcome.
NEXT STEPS If you feel counselling might be helpful to you then please give me a ring to book an initial consultation. We’ll talk about your concerns and whether or not counselling is the right thing for you.
If you decide to go ahead, we may agree on a set number of sessions, or choose to keep it open-ended. Counselling sessions last for 50 minutes for individuals and 60 minutes for couples. We usually meet once a week or fortnightly.
Each session costs £50 for individuals and £60 for couples. If you would like to book an initial consultation please contact me on 07870 647280 or email me [email protected]

More about Jan Killan
I work in a way that allows the client the time and space to explore whatever they may bring to the counselling session. My work is still limited at the moment in that I am not seeing clients face to face, however last year I took the opportunity for more study and obtained a Certificate in Telephone and On-line Counselling. This has enabled me to be more confident working in these mediums and I feel it also shows how seriously I take my work with my clients, respecting and valuing them in the process.
Whatever emerges can be looked at holistically within the safety of the therapeutic container.

More about Salma Siddique
Individual growth and development as being both fragmented and interlinked. By applying the concept of bricolage, a term used in anthropology meaning taking things which are available to create something new within a cultural context. The ways in which the lives of human minds—whether conscious or not—are inseparable from day-to-day sociale xistence and the social tensions that form it. Ethnographic attention to encounters, events and experiences that lie at the margins of attention and awareness can, then, stimulate between the psychic and the social, offer grounded insights into the layered processes. We aim to co-create a safe space for individuals to explore this fragmentation. I am work with teaching, training, supervision and therapy is available in person, online or through a blended approach.

More about Carolyn Strobos
I enjoy counselling because of the relationship it creates between me and my client. I offer Integrative counselling, psychotherapy and supervision in the Newport-on-Tay area. With over twenty years’ experience, I work with people in a confidential, safe space so that they feel heard, understood, supported, and move towards self understanding and acceptance.
I graduated from the Minster Centre with a Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy (1999) and am UKCP registered and accredited (2002). I work for Rowan Consultancy and in private practice combining psychodynamic and humanistic styles of counselling. Counselling within various settings (Dundee City Council Social Work Department, Occupational Health Services, a tertiary day care centre in the NHS and a variety of Employee Assistance Programmes) has given me experience of working with many issues, amongst which include: personal and work stress, bullying, anxiety and depression, adult survivors of sexual abuse, mental illnesses, and personal development. I am willing to work with almost any issue. I also have a special interest in loss in all its guises from my voluntary work with CRUSE 2001-2012.
I offer private supervision to other counsellors. I have supervised students on the Abertay Diploma course, as well as other courses, some of whom have continued to work with me privately.
I always feel privileged in my position, in this unique experience of helping clients to find their own way through life, toward a way that I hope is improved by our meeting.
